About Brisbane

Conference Venue
The QUT Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) is located only two kilometres or 19 minutes north of the Brisbane CBD at the QUT Kelvin Grove campus. The campus is part of the Kelvin Grove Urban Village, which includes student apartment complexes, a supermarket, shops and restaurants. The registration and information desk will be located on level 4 of Q Block (IHBI) at the QUT Kelvin Grove campus on Monday, 12 November.

The invited and contributed presentations will take place in Q Block (IHBI) at the QUT Kelvin Grove campus.

Internet access
QUT wireless network and physical internet access will be provided for all conference delegates. Upon registration you will receive a personal login and password with which you can connect to the QUT network.

Public transport
QUT’s Kelvin Grove campus is well serviced by buses. Some bus services stop right outside the campus.

All public transport is run by Translink. They have detailed information on services, timetables, fares, as well as a journey planner.

Airport
The train from Brisbane airport to Central Station takes approximately 30 minutes.
A taxi from the airport to the CBD takes approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Tourism
While in Brisbane you may wish to see some of the local sights.

  • The Queensland Museum, Science Centre, Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art are located within the Cultural Centre precinct at South Bank.
  • Boat cruises to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuarydepart the Cultural Centre Pontoon daily.
  • The CBD is Brisbane’s main shopping destination, only 10 minutes walk from QUT.

Visa
If you are visiting Australia from overseas, and you are not a resident of Australia or New Zealand, you will likely need to apply for a visa.  For citizens of certain countries, you can apply for a visa online.  For other countries you may need to submit a form.  All the details are to be found at the Australian Government department of Immigration and Citizenship.
