The 2 day workshop component of 2012 MCME will provide an opportunity for mathematicians, and academic, industrial or medical researchers to informally interact, with a view to identifying  problems amenable to mathematical modelling simulation and analysis. For each ‘problem’ identified, the moderators will drive discussion toward: (1) mathematical formulation of the problem, (2) strategies for, and partial resolution of the problem.

A facilitator will be assigned to each session to help guide the discussion and prepare notes on discussion outcomes. Written notes identifying key action items will be provided to the participants shortly after the event.

The workshop will conclude with a ‘future projects’ session in which participants are encouraged to discuss and plan for future collaborative initiatives (e.g. research grant application, student exchanges, joint supervision of students, publications) with relevant QUT professional staff on hand to provide advice on any issues or barriers to collaboration. Such issues may include identifying research funding opportunities, institutional arrangements relation to international exchange and training, commercial partnerships or intellectual property issues.
